Hellens Group has offices in Washington, Wynyard, and Catterick, operates throughout the North East, Tees Valley, and Yorkshire.
The original business (John Hellens (Contracts) Ltd) was founded in 1973 to focus on the regeneration of brownfield sites; the company became leading experts in the field.
Hellens Group has significantly expanded and is actively involved in acquiring and regenerating sites, offering a comprehensive, in-house approach from planning to construction, ensuring tailored solutions for site-specific needs. Our mission is “creating communities” in which we can all live, work and play.
Our Strategic Land business has obtained planning consent for over 5,000 homes to date and owns or controls over 700 acres across the region for further residential and commercial development.
Most recently, Hellens Group was awarded Garden Communities status for its upcoming mixed-use community, Burtree Garden Village in Darlington, which will feature 2,000 homes and 2,000,000 sq. ft. of employment and leisure space.
Hellens Residential is our Registered Provider of Affordable Homes business and owns over 300 residential properties across the region with a pipeline for a further 200 properties by 2027.

In addition, Hellens Investments have a large portfolio of land and property throughout the North East, Tees Valley and Yorkshire ranging from development sites to high spec office space, industrial and retail units.
Hellens have been instrumental in “creating communities” across the region and have developed a new mixed use community which now comprises over 1,000 homes and 100,000 sq ft of employment and leisure space at Teal Farm, Washington.
