The Hellens Group, with offices in Washington, Wynyard and Catterick, incorporates a number of property, construction, manufacturing and social enterprise businesses with interests throughout the North East, Tees Valley and Yorkshire.
The original business (John Hellens (Contracts) Ltd) was founded in 1973 to focus on the regeneration of brownfield sites; the company became leading experts in the field. Hellens Group has significantly expanded and adapted to changing market conditions, moving into sports and recreation facility construction, social housing, land and property development and investment as well as manufacturing of hard landscaping products for the building industry. Our mission statement is “improving our environment” in which we all live, work and relax.
Hellens Contracts carry out a number of contracting services for public and private sector clients including civil engineering, demolition & remediation, infrastructure & development and sports & recreation facility construction.
Oakdale Contracts based in Catterick, North Yorkshire, has been a member of the Hellens Group since 1996, is a manufacturer and importer of quality hard landscaping products.
Hellens Land are active in the purchase of sites for development for residential and mixed uses, using the company’s in house expertise to regenerate sites where necessary. Taking sites from planning stages through to construction, Hellens offer all-encompassing solutions to specific site requirements and needs. One of its key projects since 2003 has been creating a new community at Teal Farm Village in Washington, Tyne and Wear comprising 1,000 homes and 10,000 sq m of mixed use space.
In addition, Hellens Investments have a large portfolio of land and property throughout the North East, Tees Valley and Yorkshire ranging from development sites to high spec office space, industrial and retail units.
Hellens Residential was established in 2013 as the Group’s social enterprise and delivers new affordable homes for rent and for sale across the North of England. The company is a Registered Provider of Social Housing and is regulated by the Regulator for Social Housing (formerly Homes England).
Hellens Group along with Hellens Residential were awarded Garden Communities status by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government for Burtree Garden Village, Darlington in June 2019. Hellens entered into a Joint Venture agreement with Homes England, the governments housing accelerator, to bring forward Burtree Garden Village in March 2020.
